Let me tell you a secret about karate people.

They adopt popular language (like “live” and “aliveness”) and then they “karate-fy” it into something else, usually the opposite meaning. And then they pretend that their redefinition is what the thing was all along.

Here’s an example of a practice exercise that’s touted as live sparring but is not alive by any definition of the term:
